The Woman Who Didn't Wear Orange

There's a customer experience I've never forgotten.

Two friends were browsing my jewelry, moving from one collection to the next, when one woman stopped at a Carnelian necklace.

“Orange isn't a color I usually buy,” she said. But she couldn't take her eyes off it.

She picked up the necklace and read the description on the tag aloud to her friend. Carnelian represents creativity, joy, and following your passion.

Their eyes widened. They exchanged one of those knowing looks that only close friends understand.

Then she quietly shared that her divorce was final. She was ready to rediscover what brought her joy and explore passions she'd put aside.

I hadn't known anything about her life. I hadn't suggested what she should choose.

She was simply drawn to something beautiful. And when she explored its meaning, she recognized something about herself.

The seven chakras are the foundation of my jewelry designs. They represent different aspects of who we are—grounding, creativity, confidence, compassion, truth, intuition, and wisdom.

We carry all these qualities within us. Some come naturally. Others are waiting to be recognized.

I'm Lynne Gyorey, founder and designer of Splash Jewelry. I've been creating distinctive gemstone jewelry since 2009.

I love searching for gemstones with unusual colors, beautiful textures, and the small natural details that make each one distinctive.

I grew up on California's Monterey Peninsula, where the colors and textures of the coast nurtured my love of art and natural beauty.

My career took me into Silicon Valley, where I spent years managing complex engineering programs. I've always enjoyed both the analytical and creative sides of life.

Perhaps that's why I love watercolor portrait painting. Capturing someone's likeness takes careful observation, but what interests me most is capturing something about the person.

The kindness in someone's eyes. A moment of joy. A sense of wonder.

I've always been fascinated by the qualities that make people who they are, especially the gifts they don't always recognize in themselves.
